Internet Addiction

Internet addiction is a relatively new concept defined in behavioural addictions. The fact that the history of use of the Internet in its current form is not very long causes us to encounter the medium-term results of this syndrome, and we have not yet seen its long-term results fully. In recent studies, it has been shown that addictive internet use causes neurobiological changes in the brain, causing impairment in reward mechanisms, leading to complaints such as deterioration in gratification delaybehaviour, and difficulty in maintaining attention and concentration. Especially in America and Western Europe, it is known that internet addiction is seen around 10% at young ages. The aim in the treatment of internet addiction is not to prohibit or eliminate internet use, but to limit one's own uncontrolled use, to prevent the deterioration of functionality in daily life and to increase productivity. Psychosocial, motivational and behavioural treatments are applied in the treatment.
